Resident Life

UNM Radiology Residents enjoy life outside of work.

Many residents enjoy outdoor activities, including skiing, hiking, mountain and road biking, camping, indoor and outdoor climbing, and running, all accessible in Albuquerque or within a close drive.  New Mexico’s national parks/monuments and wilderness areas offer natural beauty and weekend adventures.  World-class fly fishing, whitewater rafting/kayaking, and the Southern Rockies are within easy reach.  Temperate winters and summers allow outdoor activities year round.

Our family-friendly residency in an affordable city allows our residents enjoy the family activities Albuquerque has to offer.  Residents with children visit city parks, the Albuquerque Biopark (zoo, aquarium, and botanic gardens), Explora (children’s museum) and the New Mexico Museum of Natural History and Science.  Albuquerque has a great public library system as well.  Residents with school-aged children choose among public, charter, parochial, and private schools for their education.  Many residents (with or without children) buy houses.

Through UNM, residents access sporting and cultural events including UNM Lobos games and Broadway musicals and shows at Popejoy Hall.  Community events include the Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta, Albuquerque Little Theatre, Ballet Repertory Theatre of New Mexico, Santa Fe Opera, and Albuquerque Isotopes minor league baseball.  The art galleries and museums of Santa Fe are a short drive away.

Residents and faculty also socialize outside of work, including happy hours and outdoor activities.
